Qualification history
The Yemen national side have participated in the qualifying stages of the FIFA World Cup™ a total of five times in their history. Their first, and most successful, campaign was in 1994, when they finished second in their group, one point behind section leaders United Arab Emirates. Their last qualifying experience was four years ago, when they managed to win just one group game in their failed bid to reach South Africa 2010. They put in some resolute display on the road to Brazil 2014, reducing former Asian champions Iraq to a goalless draw in the second qualifying round, although it was their opponents that progressed courtesy of their 2-0 first-leg win.
