Arsenal go joint top, Godoy defeated

Arsenal Sarandi moved joint top of the Argentinian Clausura standings yesterday with a 4-1 win at San Martin San Juan. Emilio Zelaya gave the visitors the perfect start when he converted a fifth-minute penalty, and Damian Perez doubled their advantage 13 minutes later.

Nicolas Aguirre grabbed a third goal eight minutes after the interval and, although Sebastian Penco immediately pulled one back, Carlos Carbonero added his name to the scoresheet before the hour mark to re-establish Arsenal's three-goal cushion.

The victory saw Arsenal join leaders Boca Juniors and Newell's Old Boys on 25 points - trailing only on goal difference, albeit having played a game more - while San Martin dropped a position to 17th after the heavy loss.

Eighteenth-placed Godoy Cruz remained five points adrift of San Martin, though, after going down 1-0 at Estudiantes. Leandro Desabato netted the game's only goal on the stroke of half-time to lift Estu up to eighth.
