Portugal replace Martins with Viana
(PA) Wednesday 23 May 2012

Portugal have called up Hugo Viana to their UEFA EURO 2012 squad after Carlos Martins was ruled out through injury, the Portuguese football association announced on their website.
Benfica midfielder Martins, who spent last season on loan at Granada, was last week included in coach Paulo Bento's 23-man for Poland and Ukraine but a leg injury means he will not now be available for the tournament.
Taking his place is 29-year-old Braga playmaker Viana, who won the most recent of his 26 caps in 2007.
Portugal are in Group B at the European Championships alongside the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany, who they face in their opening match on 9 June.

I totally agree with all the previous comments. I don't wish anyone any harm but Hugo Viana should have been called instead of Carlos Martins. I was actually surprised by that call but Paulo Bento kept saying that there was still room for changes for the final squad after the friendlies. I think Viana can be a key player in Portugal's success. He had a great season this year. Sometimes things happen for a reason. GO PORTUGOOOAL!

Bad news for Carlos Martins, hope he gets better soon, but this could be a blessing in disguise, Viana is better than Martins, and also form wise hes had his best season in his career to date!
